Here are some of the most commonly used options:

Snap Traps
Snap traps are one of the most traditional and effective methods for capturing and killing rodents. They consist of a spring-loaded metal bar that snaps down on the mouse when it takes the bait. Snap traps are inexpensive and can be purchased for as little as a few dollars each.

Glue Traps
Glue traps are another type of trap used to capture mice. They are essentially sticky boards that mice get stuck to when theywalk on them. Glue traps are also relatively inexpensive and can be purchased for a few dollars each.

Electronic Traps
Electronic traps are a more modern option that uses a high voltage shock to kill rodents quickly and humanely. These traps typically cost more than traditional snap traps or glue traps and can range in price from around $20 to $50 each.

Rodenticides
Rodenticides are poison baits that are used to kill rodents. They come in different forms, including pellets, blocks, and liquid baits. Rodenticides are usually sold in larger quantities and can cost anywhere from $10 to $50 or more, depending on the brand and size.

It's important to note that while these methods can be effective, they can also be dangerous if not used correctly. Snap traps and glue traps can harm pets or small children, and rodenticides can be harmful to pets and wildlife if they accidentally consume them. It's essential to follow the instructions carefully and use these products safely. In many cases, it may be best to seek the help of a professional pest control company to eliminate a rodent population safely and effectively.]]>
<![CDATA[Rodent Proofing Your Home]]>Sun, 23 Apr 2023 04:38:53 GMThttp://bugbusters406.com/blog/rodent-proofing-your-homeHardening the exterior of your home is an essential step in rodent-proofing your property. Here are six specific tips on how to do it:

 • Seal Entry PointsSealing entry points is a critical step in preventing rodents from entering your home. To do this, inspect the exterior of your home and look for any cracks, gaps, or holes. Pay particular attention to areas where utility lines, pipes, or wires enter the house, as these are common entry points for rodents. Use a combination of steel wool, caulk, and weather stripping to seal any gaps or holes you find.

 • Install Door SweepsAnother way to keep rodents out is to install door sweeps on all exterior doors. Door sweeps are strips of rubber or plastic that are attached to the bottom of the door, creating a seal between the door and the threshold. This prevents rodents from entering under the door. Make sure the door sweep fits snugly against the threshold and replace any worn or damaged sweeps.

 • Repair Damaged Roofing: Rodents can enter your home through the roof, so it's important to inspect your roof regularly and repair any damage promptly. Check for missing shingles, holes, or gaps in the roof, and repair them as soon as possible.Use materials like metal flashing or hardware cloth to cover any gaps or holes that are too big to be repaired with caulking or sealant.

 • Install Mesh ScreensMesh screens can be carefully installed over vents, chimneys, and other openings in your home's exterior to prevent rodents from entering. Make sure the mesh size is small enough to prevent rodents from squeezing through, and check the screens regularly for any damage or signs of wear. But be careful and make sure you are installing the screens correctly as improperly installing a screen may be a fire hazard for things like chimneys and drier vents.

 • Trim Trees and Shrubs: Rodents can use tree branches or shrubs to access your roof or other parts of your home. To prevent this, trim back any branches or shrubs that are touching or close to your home. Keep vegetation at least 12 inches away from the exterior of your home.

 • Store Firewood ProperlyIf you store firewood outside, make sure it's kept at least 20 feet away from your home and stored at least 18 inches off the ground. This prevents many rodents from using the woodpile as a hiding place or nesting site. Additionally, inspect the woodpile regularly for signs of rodent activity and take action if you notice any signs of infestation.

By taking these steps to harden the exterior of your home, you can prevent rodents from entering your property and causing damage. If you're still experiencing problems with rodents, it may be necessary to call in a professional exterminator to assist you with more advanced control measures.

<![CDATA[The Basics of Mouse Proofing your Home]]>Sun, 23 Apr 2023 04:33:25 GMThttp://bugbusters406.com/blog/the-basics-of-mouse-proofing-your-homeDealing with a mouse infestation can be a frustrating and stressful experience. Not only do these rodents damage your property and spread diseases, but they can also be difficult to get rid of. However, with the right approach and tools, it's possible to mouse-proof your home and eliminate any existing mouse problems like a professional exterminator would. Here's how:

1. Identify the Problem Areas
The first step to mouse-proofing your home is to identify the areas where mice are likely to enter. These may include gaps around windows and doors, cracks in the foundation, holes in the walls, and spaces around utility lines or pipes. Check both the interior and exterior of your home for any signs of mouse activity, such as droppings, gnaw marks, and tracks.

2. Seal Entry Points
Once you've identified the problem areas, it's time to seal them off. You can use a combination of steel wool, caulk, and weather stripping to fill any gaps or holes you find. Be sure to pay special attention to areas where utility lines or pipes enter your home, as mice will often use these as highways to access your property.

3. Eliminate Food Sources
Mice are attracted to food sources, so one of the best ways to prevent them from entering your home is to eliminate these sources. Keep all food in sealed containers, and make sure to clean up any crumbs or spills immediately. Additionally, make sure your trash cans have tight-fitting lids and take out the garbage regularly.

4. Set Traps
If you already have mice in your home, setting traps is the quickest and most effective way to get rid of them. There are several types of traps available, including snap traps, glue traps, and humane live catch traps. Choose the one that you're most comfortable using, and place them in areas where you've seen mouse activity. Be sure to check the traps regularly and dispose of any mice you catch.

5. Use Rodenticides
Another option for eliminating mice is to use rodenticides. These are baits that are designed to kill rodents, and they can be effective when used properly. However, it's important to read the label carefully and follow the instructions closely to avoid any potential health risks. Additionally, keep in mind that rodenticides can be dangerous to pets and children, so it's important to keep them out of reach.

6. Maintain Your Home
Finally, to keep mice from coming back, it's important to maintain your home. Keep your yard tidy and free of debris, and trim back any trees or bushes that are close to your house. Additionally, check for any signs of mouse activity regularly, and address them as soon as possible.

By following these tips, you can mouse-proof your home and eliminate any existing mouse problems like a professional exterminator. While it may take some effort, the result will be a clean, healthy home that's free of rodents.

<![CDATA[How to get rid of carpet beetles]]>Sun, 05 Jun 2022 04:19:59 GMThttp://bugbusters406.com/blog/how-to-get-rid-of-carpet-beetlesCarpet Beetles. Most of us didn't even know they were a thing until we found one in our house and googled what it could be. You don't want to hire an exterminator, but you want to know what you can do to try and get rid of these small terrible pests.

If I was in your shoes, first thing I would do is start vacuuming your carpet and rugs every day until you no longer have a problem, this will help keep their population in check. Next, run to the store and rent a carpet steam cleaner and steam your carpets and rugs.

Clothes, pillow cases, blankets, towels, etc., should all take a trip into the dryer and go through a cycle on high heat. If you have a handheld steamer, you can steam your clothes or any other fabrics to kill carpet beetle larvae and eggs.

Last, take your vacuum hose tool attachment and run it along all tiny cracks and crevices, from under baseboards, to between floorboards, into closet corners, between couch segments, on animal mounts, and anywhere else that a carpet beetle or it's larvae could be hiding.

If you do all the above, you may just get rid of your carpet beetle problem. In the instance that you do all the above and keep finding carpet beetles and their larvae, give your pest control professional a call and we'll help you get rid of them once and for all! Good luck!]]>
